At Heirloom Homes, we are decicated to bringing the construction industry into the 21st century through the use of sustainable building practices. To define sustainability, we have adopted 4 basic principles which dictate the way we build and the way we think about building, they are: 1. Buying Local- helps to keep our local economy strong and by purchasing locally made materials, we reduce the costs and environmental impacts caused by the transportation of materials from outside of the state. For example, the use of Colorado grown and locally milled woods for siding and interior finish applications is cost effective, good for local and statewide economy, and an environmentally sound choice as most of the wood comes from standing dead trees and are cut down in forest thinning efforts aimed at reducing wildfire risk. 2. Energy and Natural Resource Conservation- a hot topic in face of rising energy costs and probably the most important issue facing the construction industry. There are many products developed in the last 5 years that can help the efficiency of our homes. From soy based foam insulation, tankless water heaters, recycled content materials, the best energy star rated appliances, and highly rated NFRC windows and doors are simple and economical choices that can be made to reduce the impact of our daily lives on the environment. 3. Durability- always a concern in the construction industry. Many builders cut corners to save money and time for their profit margins. At Heirloom Homes, we always make sure that our customers know the many options and ways to complete a project-- not always cheapest way but often stronger and longer lasting. 4. Indoor Air Quality -- Use of products with no to little VOC's, formaldehyde free, etc. in order to maintain quality indoor air quality and conditions. While each individual project has it's own unique challenges and therefore its own specials solutions, we use these principles to guide use through the building process. GREEN DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN MORE EXPENSIVE!!! There are a myriad of sustainable choices available even for a budget minded project. |
